Demonstratives refer to already defined subjects and objects. For example "this" and "that" are both demonstratives that refer to things by their relative position.

In German, the demonstratives decline in the same was the definite articles. For example, in the nominative case jeder changes to jede for feminine nouns and jedes for neutral nouns.
